Phr00t announces his next game by Rustybolts
Phr00t the maker of 3079 a futuristic, open-world action first-person role playing game which is available on Linux, announces his next game Gentrieve 2. Inspired by one of my favorite Nintendo games Metroid!

Gentrieve 2, is of course, based off my previous 2D procedurally generated Metroidvania game, Gentrieve. There is a video showing off the gameplay of this old game here!
Gentrieve 2 will be completely redone in 3D, and it will really push the limits of procedural game generation. Just about everything that can be procedurally generated will be: textures, enemies, weapons, bosses, puzzles, rooms, entire levels and even secret rooms. The powerups will have to stay fixed, since I will need to know what items the player can get to generate the levels, but you can expect powerups like better weapons, double & triple jump, running speed increases & armor boosts.
I want to also cater to the “Speed Run” crowd by allowing players to enter world names, that will generate the same level — then players can compete to complete the level in the fastest time, or by getting the most (or least) items. I believe jMonkeyEngine has built-in video recording support, so it should be easy for players to post their best runs on YouTube.
I’ve got many “basics” working already, like enemy generation, weapons, AI & room generation, but there is still much much to do. Here are some very early development screenshots showing some room generation:

Things like colors, textures & objects shown in these screenshots are completely interchangeable, and these rooms were generated automatically. I plan on filling lots of the empty space with lava pits, pools, enemies & other objects. A pretty HUD, menu & storyline will also be included, of course [IMG]
Thanks all!

Dirk Dashing 2 v0.9 is available! by MyGameCompany
Version 0.9 of Dirk Dashing 2: E.V.I.L Eye is now available for pre-order customers!

This beta update adds 7 new levels for Part 5 of the story! At this point, 38 of the planned 40 levels are built, and the main storyline is now complete. This means you can play through the entire game from beginning to end!

Fans of spy movies know that the climax usually includes lots of action and explosions. So version 0.9 introduces a new gadget for Dirk: an explosive dynamite charge! You can use it to blow up all kinds of stuff! And the explosions are fun to watch - they shake the camera and spew shrapnel all over the place. It's cool to run back through the level when you're done, and see all the debris lying everywhere.

There is no public demo for version 0.9, as this only adds new content for pre-order customers. The latest demo is at v0.8.1. However, v0.9.1 will be available in about 2 weeks, and will feature significant changes to the demo levels. I will be revamping the demo levels to introduce the night vision goggles early in the game, so that all of the game's stealth elements are available in the trial version. I will also be making some additional changes for game balance, etc.

Dirk Dashing 2: E.V.I.L Eye is scheduled to be released on June 30. You can watch the game trailer, view screenshots, and download the demo from www.dirkdashing.com!

Soul Capture by liamdawe
Our forum resident Hamish let me know today about a project of his called Soul Capture. Some of you may be quite interested in this!

What is it?
Soul Capture is a free software utility developed by Piga Software which was released on May 13, 2012. It can be used to capture both the video and audio playback of OpenGL applications such as games. It was created in Gambas and works as a front-end for the glc capture program; ffmpeg is also required for encoding. Soul Capture allows users the ability to capture and encode footage of their games and other applications from a comfortable and easy to understand interface.

An example video

This video was recorded on a computer with anAMD Sempron 140 CPU with 4 GB of RAM.

Thanks Hamish!

Haunts: The Manse Macabre by liamdawe
Haunts: The Manse Macabre

Another Kickstarter looking for your support, but this one promises Windows/Mac/Linux from the get go.

The game itself:
Haunts: The Manse Macabre is a turn-based game for PC/Mac/Linux that allows players to take control of either the haunting denizens that have earned this infamous home its dire reputation or as the intrepid intruders determined to pry loose the Tyree Manse’s dread secrets. It can be played versus another player or versus the AI, online or all alone. A lengthy single-player campaign tells the house’s horrifying history and unlocks new denizens and intruders to use in the game. Scores of maps combined with variable goals, customizable rosters, and a variety of opponents offer endlessly unique and re-playable games.

It actually looks like it could be a lot of fun, certainly different to a lot of Platformers we seem to get (yes I went there again, we get a lot of platformers!).

Note to self, add a Kickstarter prefix
Note to the devs of said game - It should be Windows/Mac/Linux, PC != Windows
